Rain!!!!!!!!

Today we are supposed to get a LOT of rain. The eye of Hurricane Irene is basically supposed to pass over my town, which is kind of entertaining; I wonder if we'll be able to notice it? I have never been in a hurricane like this before, so it should be cool. (Hopefully, we WILL notice it, so that we can go for a walk at that exact moment—because I expect that being cooped up inside all day is going to drive me mad, very quickly, and I might start to throw things and yell.)
AND THEN THERE WAS DOCTOR WHO YESTERDAY!!!!!!!!!
I was not sure how I felt about weird, random Mels (?) showing up and suddenly being Amy and Rory's best friend, as it seemed a little odd; as the Doctor quite rightly pointed out, why haven't we heard of her before? But that's okay, the River storyline has been going on long enough that they probably didn't have all the details fully worked out when they started. I'm a little surprised, though, at how they seem to be closing up the River storyline; I guess they're going to go into Melody territory now, but River's only had a handful of episodes. Alas. I loved Alex Kingston (I think that's her name?), who plays River, when she was acting crazy, brain-washed Mels; I was really confused at first, and thought that the writers may have failed me for the first time, because she seemed so extraordinarily out of character. But luckily, they explained why she went into a random hotel (restaurant?), brought out the big guns (oh, River), and told everyone to take their clothes off so she could go shopping. It was almost enough to make me like the idea of shopping, on purpose.
It was definitely a wonky episode, and they really accelerated the River storyline; not sure whether that was good, but it was funny.
Their treatment of Hitler was a bit odd—he didn't seem like the Most Evil Furer, which is usually how he is depicted. Admittedly, he had about five lines before being thrown into a closet, and the Doctor, Amy, and Rory did get to stare at him for a while; but I sort of expected a little more Most Evil going on there.
Rory definitely had the best line, the best acting, the best everything, as always—"Hail!" **punch**. RORY IS SO AWESOME. He is definitely still my favorite character, and I really like how he's gotten less insecure (or at least more willing to accept that the Doctor isn't quite competition, at least not in any real sense), and more capable of standing up for himself. I may have preferred if Amy had had the "Hail!" **punch** routine, rather than Rory, but ... it would have had Extra Awesome if Amy had done it, but I am a little more attached to the Rory-becoming-a-more-confident-person arc than Amy's awesomeness. Amy already has plenty of awesomeness; why not give some to Rory?
The Hermit, the Moon, the Tower, and I all went to walk around the brook yesterday. Because of the hurricane, they must have opened some dams downstream or something, because the water level was so low that there practically wasn't any more water. It was a bit of a let-down in terms of the scenery, but gave us plenty of opportunities to discuss the impending hurricane. I confess I am not terribly worried. Sure, rain, wind, probably some power outages; but I am not expecting a three-day catastrophe, which seems to be what the Hermit and the Moon predict. They do live kind of far out, so if they lose power it's bound to be a much bigger deal than if I do, stuck in town as I am; but I would be surprised if they couldn't go to work tomorrow, for instance. At any rate, I don't have much of an appreciation for weather.
I think my lack of appreciation was annoying the Hermit after a while, because she kept walking ahead and ignoring us; but perhaps she was also just tired, and wanted to post fic rather than walk around town. It's starting to really bug me, that all she seems to want to do, now that she has a job, is work her job and write fic. That's all great, but I don't want a cyber friendship. It's a little infuriating that she has no problem posting fic online, but still won't chat with me or call me or anything. She hasn't been online all week, and she says it's because of her internet; but I admit, suspicious-paranoid-who-is-really-insecure-about-friendships that I am, I am starting to wonder whether she just doesn't care about the rest of us anymore. Care might not be precisely the right word, but that her Real Life friends are no longer very interesting to her, and that we definitely aren't at the top of her priority list.
Which ... is disappointing, if true; but mostly I'd just like to know, rather than bothering her all the time. Alas. Maybe she's just in a funk or something, or still riding the high of having posted fic online that people actually like; maybe when that gets a bit more dull, she'll actually remember that the Real World exists. I'm sure I was being annoying, too, for my part, even though I think the reason I get so annoying is mostly because I want her to actually talk and express her own opinions, and seem invested in our friendship; but oh well. Or maybe I'm just annoying. That's always possible, too.
Done for stupid touchy-feely stuff.
